Dear WWOOFers,

For the last 5 years, we have been working to fulfill our dream of creating a beautiful pocket in the world, filled with art, music, nature, delicious food, and laughter holding it all together.

We have built Yusu no Ki all from scratch, and everyday it is getting closer to our dream. Artists and musicians regularly pass through and stay with us, our retaurant is steadily gaining in popularity and it is all thanks to the help of WWOOF.

We want to share the music and culture of Japan with people from all over the world, and love to learn. The work we have been doing has ranged from wooden decks to exposed wood ceilings to cutting tiles and shaping glass, building furniture and shaping our home and our space to fit into the nature around us.

Our restaurant hangs over a small lazy river and we are surrounded by forest and hills on all sides.

At the moment, we are involved in trying to meld the classical Japanese style of architecture with the Grecian style, focusing on using shape and color and contrast to live in visual and physical harmony with the beauty around us.

Work here is challenging, but we are all trying to learn! Come learn and build and laugh and make mistakes with us! We are waiting to hear from you. (＾ｏ＾）／

We are looking for energetic, hardworking volunteers to help out. We are currently hiring for April 15th to August 31st, 2026! Meals will be prepared at the detached house, but we sometimes cook together. Our family consists of just me (my father) and our child. I have a 15-year-old son in high school. If you love children, please come and visit us. Benefits: All-you-can-eat peaches during peach season! During persimmon and mandarin orange season, we make dried persimmons and mandarin orange juice. Enjoy plenty of fresh vegetables and fruits grown almost entirely without pesticides. The rooms are equipped with Japanese-style tatami mats, kotatsu tables, and futons. There are vaulting boxes and sports mats for free play. Sightseeing: World Heritage sites like Mount Koya and Stationmaster Nitama-chan. On my days off, I take people on drives. Access: Just over an hour by train from Kansai Airport. Very close and convenient. 【Location 】Wakayama prefecture, Along the KUMANOKODO world heritage!!
【Job】Cooking assistant, Customer Service, Serve drinks, Washing dishes, Cleaning rooms, Doing laundry, Gardening etc…

The house built in the traditional Japanese architectural style. In the garden, there is a weeping cherry tree(SAKURA) that is approximately 300 years old, which we care for together with the local community. We do not use any chemical pesticides or insecticides in our garden.

The house is a guesthouse for hikers walking the Kumano Kodo, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
In the high season, many hikers come to our garden for drinks and short break.
So we’ll have quite busy afternoon time for serving drinks, checking-in and preparing dinner.
For meals, we try to use local organic vegetables, seasonal fish, and pesticide-free produce herbs from our garden as much as possible.
Basically we serve fusion of Japanese and Italian cuisine. *My boss is Italian.

Our team motto is "Be professional, Be friendly but respectful, Create good vibes."

We are looking for individuals who are healthy in body/mind, mentally independent, and able to appreciate the simple joys of rural life. If you would like to utilize your cooking skills while learning Japanese culinary techniques, help with maintaining the Japanese garden or tending to the fields, or learn about Japanese hospitality and cleaning methods, we would be happy to have you join us.

Uniforms consist of a traditional "samue" outfit.

On your days off, you can enjoy hiking the Kumano Kodo.
There is a bus stop just 1 minute away, and you can easily access hot springs, shrines, and the city. A small supermarket is nearby. Please note that because we are in a remote area, you won't be able to buy things at any time like you would in the city.

Meals will be prepared with whatever ingredients we have on hand. Please purchase your own personal items or snacks. Showers are available during the daytime.

This opportunity is not suitable for those simply looking for a place to eat and sleep for free. We value communication with the local community, guests, and fellow staff members.

We are looking for individuals who can follow the house rules and interact with others in a friendly, respectful, and positive manner. If you are unable to do so, this position will not be a good fit for you.

Daily Schedule

Morning:
Help room cleaning/ laundry after guests check-out. Around 30mins.
Have breakfast and take a shower(we can take shower while guests are not here)
Free time

Afternoon (around 2:00 PM to 8:30 PM):
Assist with cooking and plating, Serving drinks, checking-in support, customer service, gardening,
*In the high season, many hikers come to our garden for drinks and short break.
So we’ll have quite busy afternoon time for serving drinks, checking-in and preparing dinner.
*We can have a short break
Have staff dinner around 5:30 PM
Dinner serving for staying guests from 18:30- till around 20:30
Lights out at 9:00 PM
After lights out, please spend the time quietly in your room.

We have wifi 24 hours.
There is a small house in the back yard which is just 1m from the guesthouse.
We have beds, blankets and pillows in the room. You can sleep in there with a cat Mu-chan!
