WE ARE IN URGENT NEED OF WWOOFers!

(Updated April 18, 2024)
While continuing the support below, after starting the project, we added a large-scale activity to help build the house of the couple on Amami Oshima, who had promised mutual cooperation (they are building it themselves from scratch!). Along with this, since the conversation between the Japanese and German couple is in English, it has become possible to accept foreigners who have difficulty communicating in Japanese, mainly when providing construction support.
① Growing citrus seedlings, as well as preparing for transplanting and grafting
② Harvesting and charcoal making at the planned construction site
③ Weeding around the facilities
④ Maintaining the vegetable garden
⑤ Collecting garden stones and driftwood (from the beach or riverside)
⑥ Creating parking lots (on both the main island and Kakeroma Island)
⑦ Creating a 'garden' for an old folk house, and so on…
On the Ōshima side, in two well-maintained apartments on the third floor (top floor), there are two bunk beds in each of the two rooms, and from the windows or balconies, you can view the Ōshima Strait and Kakeromajima Island. If staying on the Kakeroma side, beds are set up in an old house undergoing renovation (over 50 years old). The planned site for the free school is along the coast, away from the village, and since the land has already been prepared, it is also possible to camp in tents there. There is a swimming-friendly beach right in front. It was okay to swim in the sea without a wetsuit on 12/22 too! Both on the Amami Ōshima side and the Kakeromajima side, accommodation is generally possible for up to four people; however, since I am inexperienced as a host, please consult with us if your group has three or more people, and we will consider each situation individually. Please note that until the main building of the free school is completed, I, a man, will be the only one involved in the project. Please understand any inconveniences or lifestyle adjustments that may result from this during your stay.
If you’re even a little interested, please start by contacting us via message. We, of course, decline requests for an immediate 'connection,' but as long as you’re someone who can communicate properly, I am currently able to accommodate all year round. Also, plans have been made to build the main building for the free school, and preparations for that will keep us busy. If you’re interested in that area, I might ask for any help you can provide.
For those wishing to participate as WWOOFers with us, please make sure to read not only the 'Acceptance Status' but also the 'Host List.' We often have trouble with messages from foreigners that, if put positively, are 'friendly,' but, if put negatively, are 'rude.' Every time, we’ve communicated including giving advice, but we often encounter situations where questions are not answered, there’s no thanks or apology, or the conversation ends abruptly without a response. Considering the waste of taking time out of our busy schedule and the sense of futility after these exchanges, if we determine that someone has not written the necessary information or clearly hasn’t read the requirements, we have decided to send a 'one-time refusal' reply. Please be aware of this, especially for foreigners, and kindly understand our approach. Thank you for your cooperation!
Postscript (12/5)
Lastly, this concerns privacy, but as a condition for Woofing activities, we will check whether you have received the aforementioned vaccinations before the activities. The number of doctors in remote island areas is very limited, and there are only a few hospital beds on the island. Please proceed with messages and exchanges with this understanding.
