We have an organic attitude of sorts, but we do not go out of our way to be organic or alternative, rather, we do what suits us at the time

Our Life & Way of Living

Throughout the year, our days revolve around growing wine grapes and making wine, along with seasonal vineyard work and hands-on winery tasks.

We were originally preparing to open a guesthouse, but for now we’ve intentionally paused that plan and are putting our full focus on welcoming WWOOFers.
Because our time and resources are limited, we truly value taking the time to connect carefully and sincerely with each person who comes here.

We run the winery as a family while raising two children—one in junior high school and one in elementary school.
This means that this place is not only a workplace, but also a living space where our children sleep, study, and go to school every day.

For meals, we try to cook simple, homemade food that’s easy on the body.
That said, on busy days we sometimes rely on prepared foods or bento boxes, and to be honest, we also enjoy fast food once in a while.
Rather than chasing an “ideal lifestyle,” we value a realistic, sustainable way of living that we can continue day by day.

The winemaker used to love smoking, but thanks to his wife—who dislikes tobacco—he quit over 20 years ago.
Our life is now completely smoke-free, both indoors and outdoors.

We do enjoy alcohol, of course.
Having a beer or a glass of wine after a day’s work is an important way to reset and unwind.
At the same time, we’re careful to enjoy it in moderation, so it never interferes with the next day’s work or our family life.

At the winery, grape pomace is returned to the vineyards as compost, and in the fields we try to farm in ways that stay as close to nature as possible.
Because we are a small, family-run winery, every task in the vineyard and every aspect of daily life
directly shows up in the taste and quality of the wine we make.

Even in the midst of busy days, we try to treasure simple moments — sitting around a fire, looking up at the stars, and taking time to talk slowly and honestly with one another.
There’s no flashy entertainment here, but there is real work and real life in a quiet rural village.

We welcome people who are interested in our way of life and work.

We would be happy to welcome people who enjoy nature, rural life, and the quiet rhythm of the countryside, and who can approach both people and work with sincerity.

The work may include vineyard tasks, winery support, cleaning, tidying, helping around meals, and other practical jobs depending on the season and situation.

No experience is necessary.
If something is unclear, please ask and check with us. We would like to work together in a comfortable and positive way.

This is both a workplace and our family’s home.
For that reason, we value respect for our family, consideration for other WWOOFers, and care in shared daily life.

Accommodation is in shared spaces, and bathing is usually at a nearby public bath facility.
Our property is completely non-smoking, both indoors and outdoors.
Also, because we prepare meals as an extension of our own family meals, we are generally not able to accommodate dietary restrictions or special meal requests.

Details about the work, daily rhythm, what to bring, and pick-up arrangements will be shared carefully after we connect and exchange messages.

We believe communication before arrival is important, so that both sides can prepare with confidence and peace of mind.

Work Details - Other
Our work includes both vineyard work and practical winery work related to making wine.
The specific tasks change depending on the season, but every task helps us grow healthy grapes and make good wine.
The work may include vineyard tasks, winery support, cleaning, tidying, preparing tools and materials, and other practical jobs as needed.
Many tasks are simple, so no previous experience is necessary.
If you are not sure about something, please ask instead of guessing. We are happy to explain and work together step by step.
More than special skills or experience, we value care, consideration for others, and a sincere attitude toward the work.

Working Hours
Our basic working schedule is around 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
With breaks in the morning and at lunchtime, the actual working time is usually about 6 hours per day.
Summer can be hot, so we take heat safety seriously.
Depending on the weather forecast, temperature, and type of work, we may adjust the schedule flexibly — for example, by avoiding the hottest hours in the afternoon, starting earlier, or finishing a little earlier when needed.
During the harvest season in September and October, some days may become a little longer because of harvest and winery work.
When that happens, we try to balance it by making other days shorter, so that the average actual working time does not go far beyond about 6 hours per day.
Outside work hours, we truly want WWOOFers to rest well and enjoy their free time in our quiet rural area.

Number of WWOOFers
Normally, we host around 2 to 4 WWOOFers at a time.
During busier seasons, we may host more WWOOFers, especially during:
・late June to the end of July
・early September to late October

Yearly Flow of Work

March to April
This is the season for preparing the vineyard for the new growing year.
Typical tasks include cleaning up pruned branches, removing tendrils from wires, peeling rough bark from vines, preparing training areas, managing or transplanting young vines, repairing vineyard structures, and preparing for spring weed control.
In the winery, depending on timing, there may also be support work such as bottling, labeling, cleaning, washing, sanitation, preparing materials, and tidying.
These are simple but important tasks that help set up the whole season.

May to Mid-June
This is when the vines begin to grow quickly.
Typical tasks include shoot thinning, organizing new growth, helping with shoot positioning, and managing weeds around the vines and between the rows.
Because the vines grow fast at this time of year, working at the right timing is important.

Late June to the End of July
This is an important season for protecting the grapes before harvest.
Typical tasks include weed control, canopy management, putting paper covers over grape clusters, and installing nets to protect grapes from birds and wild animals.
The weather can be hot, so we adjust the work carefully while paying attention to everyone’s condition.

August
Vineyard management and protection from animals continue.
Tasks may include weed control, organizing the area around the vines, cluster-zone work when needed, and preparation for harvest.
There may also be bottling or labeling work in the winery.
August is a hot season, so we continue to prioritize heat safety and good rest.

Early September to Late October
This is the peak season for harvest and winemaking.
In the vineyard, tasks may include harvesting, sorting grapes, carrying crates, and cleaning up.
In the winery, tasks may include destemming, crushing, helping with grape intake, support work around fermentation, washing, cleaning, preparing materials, and general cleanup.
It is a busy but exciting season, and we value the feeling of working together as a team.
We also try to make time to share meals and relax together when we can.

November to Mid-December
This is the season for cleaning up and resetting after harvest.
Typical tasks include cleaning, tidying, organizing materials, wrapping vines with straw for winter protection, vineyard maintenance, and small repairs for the next season.

Mid-December to the End of February
We generally stop accepting WWOOFers during this period because the cold is severe and the work environment can become difficult.

Work Style
This is a place where work and daily life move forward together.
Some tasks are simple and repetitive, but each one is part of the process of growing grapes and making wine.
For people who enjoy rural life, meaningful work, shared meals, and learning through everyday experience, we think this can be a very rewarding place.
No experience is necessary.
We warmly welcome people who value:
・careful work
・communication when something is unclear
・respect for people and shared living
・sincerity toward work and daily life
We are trying to give WWOOFers 6 hours a day, however, it may increase or decrease depending on the activities we are doing
  • In a room in the house where the Host family live
  • In a house separate from the main house
  • Using a Japanese futon

Accommodation

WWOOFers stay in a renovated old kura storehouse located on the winery property.
This building is also used as our direct sales shop for welcoming customers, so it is not a facility designed only for accommodation.
It is a simple living space created by making use of an old traditional building.

In principle:
* Men stay on the second floor of the winery shop building (a shared space)
* Women stay in a tatami room on the first floor of our main house/office, where our family also lives
In both cases, these are shared spaces, not private rooms.
For that reason, we ask for understanding and consideration toward shared living.

The building does not have air conditioning.
In summer, we use electric fans, and in winter, kerosene stoves.
This is not a highly equipped accommodation, so please bring clothes that allow you to adjust easily to hot and cold temperatures by yourself.

Also, because this is a renovated old storehouse, insects may come inside depending on the season.
Please understand in advance that this is a place close to nature.

For bathing, we usually guide WWOOFers to Kenko Plaza, a public bath facility in the Kurashina area.
On days off, we may guide you to a different bathing facility a little farther away.
In either case, we ask for a 100 yen contribution per visit.

This is not accommodation designed for maximum comfort, but rather a shared living environment close to nature.

Basic ingredients for breakfast, lunch, and dinner are provided by us.
Breakfast is self-serve: we ask each person to prepare and eat simple things such as ochazuke, bread, cereal, coffee, and so on.
Lunch and dinner are basically prepared by us.

Meals are simple home-style food, as an extension of our family’s everyday life.
We also try, as much as possible, to sit at the table together and value the time to share food culture and different ways of thinking.
However, depending on the work schedule or family circumstances, we cannot always eat together every time.
When that happens, we ask WWOOFers to spend mealtime comfortably together, with mutual respect.

Not every day, but on some days we also prepare house wine.
When we do, please enjoy it with moderation.

Because we prepare meals for WWOOFers as an extension of our family meals, we are generally not able to accommodate dietary restrictions or special meal requests.

Also, meals are not only about eating.
Preparation and cleanup are also part of shared daily life here.
For that reason, we ask everyone to help with serving and cleaning up.
This is an important part of living together in this place.

If there is anything else you would like to eat besides what we provide, you are welcome to buy it yourself and eat or drink it freely.
That includes alcohol, juice, snacks, sweets, and things to nibble on. Please prepare those for yourself as needed.
We do not manage those things closely, so we ask each person to take proper responsibility for their own items.

Welcome!

Thank you for your interest in our way of life and work.

We are a small family-run winery in Chikuma, Nagano.
As a family, we grow grapes, make wine, and live while valuing the nature, people, and rhythm of this land.

Here, we work together on seasonal vineyard tasks and practical winery work.

Many tasks are simple, but because we are a small winery, we believe that each small step helps shape the quality of the wine.

No experience is necessary.
You do not need to be good at everything from the beginning.
What matters more is asking when something is unclear, working carefully, and approaching the experience with sincerity.

This is both a workplace and our family’s home.
We welcome people who can respect our family, other WWOOFers, and the shared life here.

Life here is simple, but there is a quiet rural rhythm, closeness to nature, time around the table, and the good feeling of finishing work together.
When the timing is right, we also enjoy sharing our winery’s wine together.

Outside work hours, we truly want you to rest well, enjoy your free time, and feel that your stay here becomes a good memory.

We hope that after spending time living and working with us, you will feel truly glad that you came.

Details about the work and daily life will be shared carefully after we connect and exchange messages.
We want both sides to feel comfortable and prepared before your arrival.

We would be happy to create a good time together.

Thank you, and we look forward to meeting you.
WE ARE IN URGENT NEED OF WWOOFers!

We are looking for WWOOFers to join us from early September to late October, during the grape harvest and winemaking season.

We already have one person staying for the full two months of September and October, and another staying from mid-September until early December.
A few WWOOFers who came in spring or summer are also planning to come back for harvest, saying, “We’ll be back for harvest!”

We can host up to eight people at a time — four men and four women.

The reason we want to welcome a larger team is simple: we want to reduce the burden on each person.
Rather than letting too much work fall on just a few people, we hope to share it and move through the season together.

Harvest and winemaking follow the grapes, the weather, and the movement of fermentation.
Because of that, every day will not follow the same schedule.

There may sometimes be long days, but we will balance them with shorter days and proper time to rest.
We do not want anyone to keep pushing beyond their limits. We want to support one another and move through this season as a team.

We harvest the grapes, carry them, press them, watch over the fermentation, and slowly see the wine come to life.
During the winemaking season, the days move quickly, almost like a festival.

It is busy, but it is also a very special time that comes only once a year.
We want to value not only the work, but also the time we spend together — sharing meals, talking, and sometimes enjoying a glass of wine as a team.

This autumn, come and make wine with us.

We are a small family-run winery in Chikuma, Nagano.
We grow grapes, make wine, and care deeply about both the seasonal work in the vineyard and the daily life that surrounds it.

Over the years, we have been lucky to meet many wonderful WWOOFers.
We are truly grateful for the time we have shared — working together, sitting around the table, and talking about all kinds of things.

We are already looking forward to the new people we have not yet met.

And of course, let’s enjoy some of our winery’s wine together too.
