We hope that the world will circulate with kindness while supporting children and students. Therefore, we would like people who are kind and gentle at heart to come. It is important that you are sincere and can be a role model for children. Please be mindful of cleanliness and hygiene.

We also operate a cafe, so people who are interested in cooking and confectionery can also enjoy themselves. There are traditional stoves and pizza ovens, so you can enjoy outdoor activities.

There are many Japanese castle ruins and traditional buildings in the surrounding area. There is also a supermarket nearby.

I also like anime and manga. I also love Ghibli anime. Universal Studios Japan is also within train distance.

*Please refrain from making noise outside in the evening so as not to disturb the local community.

*There is a 24-hour police station right in front of the house, so security is high.

*It was just renovated in 2023 and is clean.

*There are insects because the mountain is right next to it.

There are goats and rabbits. There are also beautiful mountains nearby, so you will surely feel happy in this beautiful rural area.

Hi, I’m Miyako, the manager of the Tanba Sasayama Agristation.

What we are
The Agristation, where you’ll be working, is an independent rural café and community centre catered towards young families with a plot of farmland and some animals. On the farmland we grow sweet potatoes and black edamame, a regional delicacy. We also have a rabbit and two goats and run our own English eikaiwa (academy).

What you’ll be doing
We’ve just started WWOOF and are looking for volunteers to join us to help out in various activities to keep this place running. This is varied, but mainly consists of: cleaning the café and library, taking care of the animals, cooking, washing dishes, farmwork and assisting English lessons. Typically volunteering is about 8 hours a day, 5 days a week (Tuesday to Saturday) and up to an hour taking care of the animals for the other 2 days. Twice a month you’ll get Saturdays off.

What we provide
What we offer.
Lodging, meals, and WiFi will be provided on-site. Accommodations may be in shared rooms. (It is possible that men and women will share a room, but we will make every effort to keep it private.)
In that case, please take your own breakfast and snacks from those provided. Lunch and dinner will be provided on volunteer days. Lunch will be with other WWOOFers, while dinner will be with me and my family. On weekends, you will usually cook your own meals, but occasionally my family and I will eat at the Agri-Station! Snacks are included in the meals provided.

Opportunity for cultural immersion
My family will be on site for much of the time, so you will have an experience similar to a homestay. We appreciate the richness that cultural exchange brings, and you will spend time with our family. I would like you to teach my children English and help with childcare. Also, since the Agristation is the center of the community, you will get to see everyday faces and get to know the local community. On weekends, we sometimes go out to local temples and festivals.

Location
We are based in the beautiful and peaceful suburbs of Tamba Sasayama. It has a quaint old town built in the Edo period and a castle. The agrestation itself is surrounded by rice fields and black edamame fields, with mountains in the background. Despite the quiet surroundings, the local convenience store is only a 5-minute bike ride away, and the nearest supermarket is only 10 minutes away. Kyoto, Osaka, and Kobe are also only an hour away by car (2 hours by public transportation).

About the Hosts and Their Families
I have been running Agristation since 2017. My husband and I have a son and three daughters ranging in age from 5 to 16. We love Ghibli movies, visiting shrines and temples, and exploring new places. I want to get my children to stop watching YouTube.

I’m a fairly hands on host, so you’ll see me nearly every day, so if you need my help I’m close by.
We can accept from April 1 to April 11 or after May 17.
