Life on the island is not as convenient as city life, but in return, people are closer to one another and time flows in a calm and relaxed way.

There are no fast food restaurants or convenience stores here, but there are two small local shops nearby. I smoke tobacco.
Each room has a television, and you are free to watch it whenever you like.

Because I am sometimes involved in local council and community activities, my schedule can be irregular. However, this also offers opportunities to take part in local events and experience the “inside” of island life that tourists usually do not see.

Meals can be self-cooked, so please feel free to talk with me if you have any requests or concerns.
There is one toilet and one bathroom, so they are shared.

On weekends, we can go for drives or go fishing.
There are occasional social drinking gatherings, but participation is completely optional. Most guests are in their 20s, but people of any age who enjoy calm shared living are welcome.

For long-term stays, I can lend my Jimny free of charge on days off (please return it with a full tank of gas).
If you have a valid international driving permit, you can enjoy your days off by visiting nearby islands and exploring the area at your own pace.
Please note that car availability depends on weather, schedule, and vehicle condition.

There may be times when I ask you to handle simple tasks while I am away,
but I will always explain the work clearly in advance.
I welcome people who can act calmly and responsibly.

Here, we value a slow and natural lifestyle that follows the rhythm of the seasons. If you enjoy caring for vegetables and fruit trees, feeling the sea breeze, and spending quiet time surrounded by nature, this place will suit you well.

Most of the work involves physical activities such as growing vegetables, caring for fruit trees, harvesting, sorting, and general farm maintenance. Even if you are new to farming, I will teach you step by step, so there is no need to worry. People who enjoy nature, are curious about plants and food, and like working together tend to feel comfortable here.

We welcome both short-term and long-term stays, but for those who wish to gradually adapt to island life and take part in farm work at their own pace, a longer stay is especially recommended. If you are interested in experiencing daily life rather than tourism, you may find a long-term stay particularly rewarding.

On the other hand, this may not be the best place for someone who prefers the fast pace of city life or feels stressed by weather-dependent schedules.

Through your stay, I hope you will come to appreciate nature even more and experience the comfort of living at your own rhythm. We warmly welcome open-minded people who are ready to enjoy life on a small island.
WE ARE ACCEPTING WWOOFers

Hello, my name is Shiraishi, and I am the owner of Shiraishi Farm.
Thank you very much for taking the time to visit my page among many hosts.

At Shiraishi Farm, I have welcomed a wide variety of guests from Japan and overseas, including many people experiencing WWOOF for the first time.
If something feels unfamiliar at first, that is completely okay — we can go through both work and daily life together and adjust step by step.

This farm is located on a remote island surrounded by nature, making it a good place for those who would like to enjoy calm and relaxed farm work at a comfortable pace.
It is especially suitable for people who prefer quiet, thoughtful living rather than busy or crowded environments.

■ Overview of Farm Work Throughout the Year

The main tasks change with the seasons as follows (timing may vary depending on weather and conditions):

Spring (March–May):
Pruning, grass cutting, seedling care, and general field maintenance

Summer (June–August):
Grass management, pest control, and preparation for harvest
(After work or on days off, you can enjoy swimming in the sea or spending time in nature.)

Autumn (September–December):
Mandarin harvesting, sorting, and packing
(This is the busiest and most lively season.)

Winter (January–February):
Bagging and shipping mandarins, field maintenance, seed sowing, and preparation for the next season

The mandarin harvest has already finished.
From January to March, the main work focuses on packing and shipping, as well as field maintenance and preparation for the next growing season.
This is a calmer period, offering a chance to experience quiet winter to early spring farm life on the island.

■ Work Days and Hours

The standard schedule is 6 days of work per week, with 1 day off.
Daily working hours are about 6 hours.

Regular season:
9:00–12:00 / 13:00–16:00

Summer season:
6:00–9:00 / 15:00–18:00

If conditions are extremely hot, we prioritize safety and health and may finish work earlier.

■ Recruitment Period

Shiraishi Farm accepts WWOOFers throughout the year.
Stay periods and timing can be adjusted depending on work conditions and availability, so please feel free to contact me first.
Short stays, late arrivals, or early departures are all welcome.

■ Accommodation & Safety

It is possible to host multiple WWOOFers at the same time.
If male and female guests stay during the same period, separate rooms are always provided to ensure comfort and safety.
Mutual respect and a comfortable shared atmosphere are very important here.

■ About Ama Town

Ama Town is a small island community known for its philosophy of “We have what we don’t have,” along with rich nature and warm-hearted people.
During your stay, you may have opportunities not only to interact with local residents, but also to meet Japanese young adults in their 20s who have come from outside the island through the Adult Island Study Program.

■ Period When Hosting Is Not Available

Due to work commitments, the Ama Town Assembly will be held from March 2 to March 10.
During this time, I will be absent even if guests are staying.
Therefore, I kindly ask applicants to plan their stay outside this period.

■ Transportation

An automatic Jimny car is available for use during your stay.
Only guests with a valid international driving permit may use the car, and it must be returned with a full tank of gas.

■ Communication Before Staying (Important)

To ensure a smooth and comfortable experience for both sides,
please contact me in advance to discuss your preferred dates, length of stay, and any questions about the work.
I appreciate connecting only after we have both agreed on the details.

Rather than sending a sudden connection request,
please feel free to start with a casual message or inquiry.

I welcome friendly and positive people of all genders.
If you are interested, please do not hesitate to contact me.

【Important Notes for First-Time WWOOFers Aged 18–20】

The following points are especially important for first-time WWOOFers aged 18–20.
Please send a message or connection request only if you agree with these conditions.

Punctuality is essential
Farm work requires good time management.
If waking up on time or managing schedules is difficult, hosting may not be possible.

You can prepare your own breakfast and lunch
Please prepare your own morning and midday meals.
You are welcome to use ingredients available at the house.

Clean up after yourself
Please wash and return all dishes and cooking tools on the same day.

Communicate when you need help
If you have questions or concerns about work or daily life, please talk to me right away.

Treat farm products as commercial goods
You may help with packing vegetables and mandarins for sale.
Please do not treat this as play.
Listening to music during work is okay, but I value efforts to communicate and learn about Japanese culture and language.

Understanding that insects may appear
Insects may occasionally appear, even at night.
Insect spray is provided, but if you are extremely uncomfortable with insects, this may not be suitable for you.

Boots and gloves sizes
Boots and gloves are available, but not in all sizes.
If possible, please tell me your hand and shoe size in advance (S / M / L / XL / XXL).

Shared shower and washing machine
These are shared facilities.
Please ask, “May I use it?” before using them.

No shoes inside the house
Please remove shoes or boots before entering.
This is a common practice in Japan.

Language and communication
I do not speak English perfectly.
Please make an effort to communicate using translation apps or tools when needed.
I also appreciate guests who try to learn basic Japanese words used in daily life, such as “genkan” (entrance).
A positive attitude toward learning language and culture is very welcome.
