Message To WWOOFers In English
This organization is an English language school that is truly unique. It is a residential school, and the students reside at our school for the entire duration of their course. English is the only language that is permitted on the school premises.
During your stay, we encourage you to spend some time with the students partaking in some activities with them. For example, you can enjoy relaxing on the beach with the students whilst chatting in English, or you can converse with the students during our "English discussion classes". Apart from that, depending on the season, you will be required to help farm and weed our garden, serve cultural exchange with school trip students, prepare the meals, and do some cleaning work. If you arrive during harvest time, you will be able to harvest vegetables that are grown only in Okinawa. There may also be an opportunity to take part in the harvest of seaweed.
During our "English discussion classes", we encourage you to share something about your country, in particular, about aspects of your country's culture and people that you find interesting. Our main aim is to help our students to become truly "global individuals". If WWOOFers visit us from around the world, we will be successful in creating a truly international and "global" environment. We hope you will enjoy speaking and sharing with our students in this international environment.
Different students enrol for each program, so you will be able to meet students from a variety of backgrounds. For example, sometimes our students are university students, and sometimes they are from Japanese companies. If you stay at a farm, the people you meet will be limited to the host family and the people who work at the farm. However, if you stay here, you will be able to meet Japanese people who come from many parts of Japan. The best part about staying at Gateway is being able to encounter people from various walks of life, who hold different values and who have different attitudes toward life and work. By spending time with our students in a relaxed atmosphere, you will be able to encounter the "real" Japan and Japanese people.
